2005 Penny Jar Prize
Half Drunk Muse is delighted to announce the 2005 Penny Jar Prize winner: Tripp Howell's Left Hands of Men with Right Arms Only. The poem weaves through steam-of-consciousness-like images to question what is whole and what is right; the poem balances between examining human and divine personalities and leaves the reader not with answers but with implications and inferences. "Left Hands of Men with Right Arms Only" was originally published in the 2005 Double Issue; Tripp will receive this year's cash award of $44.92. Congratulations, Tripp!
We would also like to offer honorable mentions to Kathryn Hawkins and Pamela Manasco. Kathryn Hawkins'Aquarium offers a surreal image of an underwater city and speaks to the way communities leave their mark on individuals. Pamela Manasco's Prometheus is a well-written variation on the Prometheus myth that questions Prometheus's real punishment. Both poems are well crafted and thought provoking--thank you both!
We are grateful to and would like to congratulate all our 2005 contributors—despite the technical difficulties with the journal, we received outstanding work from everyone!
