Half Drunk Muse Poetry

each dog needs a name by John Sweet

the poems are dogs
the hand holds the whip

this feels true

and each dog needs
a name
and each face a scar

and some of us are
more willing to give than

tilt their heads back

expose the throat like
a sacred gift

wait to see the future
in whatever pours
from the wound
