The Quality of Anywhere by Gary Kane

No mystery
      lies
beneath this fluorescent
          globe.
Tiny monsters
     crawl,
laden with divine memories;
            scalded
                 and peeled dry.
Your tears,
     rippling dances,
joining the currents
     of veteran music
          & the starving terror
     of solid ground,
begging to rebuild
     the path.
Packing the past into boxes.
Feeding the present
     w/ sounds
     & friends
     & movement.
Sending a messenger
into Time's ear
     as you drag
     stones
     into the season
     of silence
where dogs don't bite
and the Night
is a soft
fever.
