Encountering Us, Again

Appeared in the 1999-2004 issue.

How my inner symphony
tunes itself to these rising and falling suns,
I know now: looking back

how you saw us
as inmost memories of ourselves,
studied in exile.

Our gaze is a laughter in some other love.
Sunset, a child lost and helpless. Come dawn
there will be nothing that is not you.
