Hijacked

Appeared in the 1999-2004 issue.

What they do not say:
This is a hijack situation.
I am to be held at needlepoint.

What I desire: for my bed to be turned
towards a window, is not important.

What they do not say:
The ransom is too high.
The cancer will not negotiate.

What I do not ask:
Let me look at the sunrise.
At dawn, there is an entire day to dream.
Everything is possible. The world
is shyly emerging from shadows,
revealing herself;
my modest bed faces a corner.

The walls are a dusky red, not
from dust reflecting sunlight:
from words they do not say bursting
against questions I do not ask.
